SmartConsensus by ResearchTeam™
SmartConsensus by Research Team™ is unique third-party research that employs a 'wisdom of crowds' approach to investment research. The concept is simple: a combination ("team") of different research providers issuing company ratings may perform better than the individual research providers alone. The historical accuracy of each provider ("track record") is traditionally used to find the 'best' research provider. Certain providers may have poor track records, but may still add overall value if their strengths are used in combination with another research provider.
SmartConsensus is a rating based on a universe of companies covered by a team of research providers known as "Constituents" – Thomson Reuters and MarketEdge. Detailed analysis is performed on each constituent’s own ratings, historical track records and methodologies to identify the areas of strength for each constituent. These strengths are then factored into the ratings generation process to create an overall team rating ("SmartConsensus") for each company covered.
All three constituents must have a current rating for a particular company in order for there to be a SmartConsensus rating. If less than three constituents have current ratings for a particular company, then the SmartConsensus rating for the stock is "Not Rated". All of the constituents must have unanimous 'Buy' ratings in order for there to be a SmartConsensus 'Buy' rating. It takes only one opinion to make any other rating. For example, a single 'Sell' rating among the constituents will result in a SmartConsensus 'Sell' rating.
SmartConsensus reports provide you with a complete rating picture including the current SmartConsensus rating, rating history and a comparison of the SmartConsensus to its constituents.
